the most beautiful thing: swirling sand

When the sand settles, the water is clear. It is an analogy I’ve heard used many times to describe the affects of meditation. And though I suppose the image and metaphor is transferable to the mind in or out of chaos, whatever that may be, it lives close to home today as a metaphor for memory. It fades. It reemerges. It moves from memory to reality. Or simply stays buried in the bottom of the glass heart . Out of sight, out of mind – clear water from which to drink an easier day, out of which to see a more peaceful way through a future unknown.

But have you ever noticed that sand is a gorgeous mix of color and sparkle, earth and wind? Have you ever watched the light play off of the swirling dervish of particles held buoyant and bright in the glass, the water churning and bubbling under the force of the spin?

Some times, I want simply to forget you. And sometimes the color and light are exactly what I need, and want, and cherish.
